Our Green Guide
We Care About You and The Environment
All of our products are freshly handmade and cruelty free and we refuse to use unnecessary fillers to ‘bulk out’ products to reduce the cost of manufacture at the expense of your well-being. This product contains no synthetic, harmful, toxic ingredients such as parabens, dioxane, mineral oils, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, lanolin, phthalates, triethanolamine or sulphates.
We use high quality ingredients in their natural and organic forms because they are much safer, better tolerated and work in harmony with your skin having a positive effect. They don’t adversely affect your health (because everything you apply to your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream) or damage your skin at a cellular level.
This product contains 100% natural ingredients.
We use recycled cardboard/paper in our product cartons, inserts and packaging.
Flower Power!
Nonetheless, many of the ingredients we use have been scientifically proven to be effective and have been used in traditional healing for centuries by our Grandmothers and their Grandmothers and their Grandmothers….
Beware The X Factor!
Beware of any skincare products containing ingredients that sound like toxic chemicals (names with x’s are a dead giveaway) or the term ‘naturally derived’ or some newfound skin technology because these ingredients are created in a lab and are potentially damaging. You wouldn’t eat a piece of fruit that’s been created in a lab now would you?
Eco-friendly Skin Care Hand Crafted in The UK With ♥
Our mandate from mother nature is to source our ingredients and create our products ethically, while caring for what inhabits our earth. This is at the core of our philosophy. The following Green Guide details our efforts toward that end, even as we constantly strive for improvement in all areas.
Join Mama Nature Today — Let’s Transform Our World Together!
We are passionate about people and our planet (and everything on it) and hope that you join us so that together we can truly make a difference. For every product you purchase we will plant a tree on your behalf, So not only will your skin thank you, but this earth will become a better place.
Cruelty Free
None of our products or their ingredients are tested on animals. We are firmly against subjecting animals to testing and believe that animals deserve the same level of respect as human beings. Not only that, but animal testing is often ineffective, as animal studies cannot be reliable when it comes to applying the results to humans. Our entire skin care range has been tested on willing human beings, and is completely safe for you to use.
Our Products Are as Natural as is Safely Possible
There are over 10,000 industrial chemicals in common skin care products. The problem with this is everything you apply to your skin — be it lipstick or deodorant, sun block or lotion — is absorbed by the body, just as if it’s been eaten.
You deserve better than to subject your body to that. Mama Nature gives you the option to avoid putting unnecessary synthetic ingredients into your body that over time can cause more harm than good.
No Harsh Synthetics
Our products contain no parabens, dioxane, mineral oils, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, lanolin, phthalates, triethanolamine or sulphates. Since we do not use any harsh chemicals or synthetic ingredients, our products will dissolve easily in the environment without harming nature.
Our unique range of skin care recipes have been specially formulated to harness the magic that mother nature has to offer, by working in harmony with your skin.
(Note: All of our non-water based products are preserved naturally; however, we have no option but to preserve our water-based products with gentle, synthetic preservatives [as this is the only proven safe method of preserving them] in the lowest concentrations that are effective. Once we feel there is a tried and tested, safe and effective natural method of preserving our water based products, we will use that instead.
Recycled Packaging
Using recycled packaging keeps unnecessary waste out of landfills and preserves our natural resources.-
- We use recycled cardboard and paper in our cartons and inserts.
- We send orders in recycled protective packaging.
- We use as little packaging as possible.
- Every part of our packaging is intended to be recycled and we trust our customers will do so.
We Use Plastic & Glass
Plastic
Advantages
- Believe it or not plastic is more eco-friendly. An analysis by Ecochain shows that the overall environmental impact of plastic as a packaging material compared to glass is lower. Of course we realise it is difficult to get rid of plastic and it ends up in the waterways. Several other studies by different organisations have also found this to be the case.
- Because it is lighter it contributes less to our carbon footprint as less fuel is used in transporting it.
Disadvantages
- As you are no doubt aware it is difficult to get rid of plastic and it ends up in the waterways (even when it has been recycled which we think is disgraceful!)
- No one knows for sure but it is estimated it can take, depending on the type of plastic, 20 to 1000 years to decompose. And even then, it breaks down into undetectable nanoparticles that make their way into our ecosystem, which is unacceptable.
- It can kill ocean life and wildlife.
- It can produce chemical pollution.
Glass
Advantages
- Glass has an advantage in recyclability and the production of the packaging.
Disadvantages
- No one knows for sure but it is estimated it can take up to, now wait for it….one million years to decompose. But we think this is not as big an issue as it first sounds. Glass, although manmade, gets worn down over the years to create some beautiful almost crystal-like objects. People even collect it for its beauty from beaches around the world. Since it is more compatible with our environment (it contains sand and limestone) it is definitely less harmful to our ecosystem. However, it is still unacceptable that it is in landfills and ends up in oceans.
- Because of the enormous difference in weight, the impact of glass, especially in the transportation phase, is significantly higher.
As you can see, eco-friendly packaging in the modern world is not such a straight forward task. So we are still actively working on finding other, practical solutions.
In an ideal world we would love for you to bring along your own empty jam jars, and we could chat as we spoon our wonderful concoctions into them, like the village healers of old 🙂
In the meantime we would ask that you please recycle all containers and ideally, if possible, get creative and put them to another use. Let your creative juices flow!
Biodegradable
Our products contain no parabens, dioxane, mineral oils, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, lanolin, phthalates, triethanolamine or sulphates. Since we do not use any harsh chemicals or synthetic ingredients, our products will dissolve easily in the environment without harming nature.
Vegan Where Possible
The vast majority of our products are Vegan except those containing bee derived ingredients. Because of the amazing healing and nutritional qualities unique to bee-derived ingredients we use in some products, we feel there are no satisfactory natural alternatives available.
And healing is primarily what we are about!
We love all animals including bees and contrary to some peoples opinions we don’t think beekeeping is cruel. Please see below the heartfelt sentiments of a Vegan beekeeper.
“Beekeeping is a labour of love for me and many of my colleagues, including those who are not Vegan Beekeepers. I look forward to each spring, and I love my bees more than you could ever imagine. Because we love working with bees, we invest far more into them than common sense would suggest.
We provide them with a home, a defence from marauding wasps, and food when the year’s blooms don’t provide them with enough stores to survive. We provide treatment for the mites that kill them, and replace the queen when the old one dies, so the colony will survive.
In autumn, we wrap the hives to keep them warm, and we store pollen to feed the bees when their stores drop low, so the next generation can be raised.
We collect swarms, who want nothing more than a home to settle into and the chance to succeed. We only remove excess honey and beeswax, and always leave plenty for them to live on, otherwise they could not produce honey for the following year.
I love beekeeping and more importantly I love my bees.”

No Palm Oil
Palm oil is found in approximately 40-50% of household products. The palm oil industry is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights abuses in the countries where it is produced.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour to make way for palm oil production. This large-scale deforestation is pushing many species to extinction, and findings show that if nothing changes, species like the orangutan could become extinct in the wild within the next 5-10 years, and Sumatran tigers in less than 3 years.
We do not support this unsustainable use and decline to use palm oil in any of our products.
Freshly Hand Crafted
Our experienced team lovingly hand crafts each and every one of your products freshly to order by using only traditional methods.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
No machinery is used in the process except the vacuum sealer at the end to retain their freshness. (Of course Mama Nature does have a magic wand that she uses to sprinkle her magic into your products, but we don’t technically classify that as machinery!)
This not only reduces our carbon footprint but means we can give it our personal touch. Call us old fashioned but we think you deserve only the best. Therefore we take our time crafting our lotions and potions so they are perfect for you to use.
Charitable Support
We support a host of charities in the UK and overseas that address environmental/societal issues or advocate for the disadvantaged. We support those organizations that are committed to making this earth a better place for all of us.
